Who are We?
The Division of Mathematical and Physical Sciences (MAPS) is the largest division on campus, consisting of the departments of Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science, and the Dual Degree Engineering Program. It offers many programs of study, research opportunities, professional training and service-learning activities, and provides a pathway for students towards successful scientific and health-profession careers (in medicine, pharmacy, mathematics, computer science, physics, biochemistry, and chemistry). With over 50 faculty members and 700 students, MAPS students can always count on faculty and peer mentoring and support. All departments in the Division are located in close proximity in the Norman C. Francis Science Building, providing the faculty, staff, and students many opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations and interactions.
The Division is committed to providing students with a high-quality education that prepares them for success in their chosen careers. The Division's faculty are world-renowned experts in their fields, and they are dedicated to teaching and mentoring students. The Division also offers a variety of research opportunities, which allow students to gain hands-on experience in their chosen field. In addition, the Division offers a variety of professional training and service-learning activities, which help students develop the skills they need to be successful in their careers.
Xavier University of Louisiana, established as a university with the declaration of its College of Arts and Sciences just shy of 100 years ago in 1925 by St. Katharine Drexel and her Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, had humble beginnings as a preparatory and teaching school. For the last century, Xavier has striven for success and excellence as it has grown and expanded exponentially. As the nation’s only historically Black and Catholic university approaches a historic centennial, departments across campus are gearing up to serve Xavier students for the next 100 years to the best of their abilities. Xavier’s Business Division, committed to preparing students for early success and empowering them for a lifetime of progress and service, was recently reaffirmed in their mission with its reaccreditation with the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). This accreditation assures Xavierites majoring in business an education of the highest standards available.

Yesterday, the New Orleans City Council acknowledged the significant contributions of BET+, Edmonds Entertainment, and This Way-Out Media to the local community, emphasizing the importance of their work in promoting the cultural richness of Xavier University of Louisiana District B and the city itself through their landmark decision to film the latest season of “College Hill: Celebrity Edition” at the nation’s only historically Black and Catholic university. Xavier’s selection as the host to the wildly popular television program underscores the institution’s pivotal role in the educational landscape and cultural heritage of New Orleans.
